শুরুতে এতো ব্যয়বহুল একটা অ্যাপস থেকে কতটুকু ব্যবসা হবে তা নিয়ে বেশ চিন্তিত ছিলো গুগল। এমনকি প্রথমদিকে তারা ভাবতেও পারে নাই ম্যাপ অ্যাপলিকেশনটি তাদের অন্যতম লাভজনক ব্যবসা হয়ে দাঁড়াবে।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান মরগান স্টেনলি বলছে, ২০২৩ সালেই গুগল ম্যাপস আয় করেছে ১১ বিলিয়ন ডলারের বেশি। যা টিকটকের আয়ের কাছাকাছি। পেরেন্ট কোম্পানি অ্যালফাবেট থেকে আলাদা করে গুগল ম্যাপসকে যদি একক বিজনেস ধরা হয় তাহলে তাদের বিজনেস ভ্যালু ৬২ বিলিয়ন ডলার। যা মার্সেডিজ বেনজের বিজনেস ভ্যালুর সমান আর ভোক্সওয়াগন ও পে-পাল থেকে বেশি। চিন্তা করেন, ম্যাপের আইডিয়া কাজে লাগিয়ে বিশ্বের আড়াইশো বড় কোম্পানির তালিকায় ঢুকে পড়েছে গুগল ম্যাপস।

গুগল ম্যাপস আরও একটি ইন্টারেস্টিং ওয়েতে ইনকাম করে। এই প্রক্রিয়ায় আয়টা আসে এপিআই অর্থাৎ অ্যাপ্লিকেশন প্রোগ্রামিং ইন্টারফেস থেকে। আপনি গুগলে কোন একটি রেস্টুরেন্ট সার্চ দিয়েছেন। দেখলেন, রেস্টুরেন্টের ডিটেইলের সাথে ছোট্ট একটি ম্যাপের ছবি সামনে চলে আসে। এটা মূলত এপিআইয়ের কারণে আমরা দেখতে পাই। এপিআইয়ের এই সেবাটি নিতে গেলেও ব্যয় করতে হয় অর্থ। এটাকে ছোট পরিসর ধরা হয়। বড় পরিসরে ম্যাপস এপিআইয়ের সেবা নেয় ফেড এক্স, উবার, পাঠাও, ফুড পান্ডা, এয়ারবিএনবি, জিললোর মতো কোম্পানিগুলো। তারা তো গুগল ম্যাপস ব্যবহার বিশেষ এই সেবা নিয়েই ব্যবসা টিকিয়ে রেখেছে।
এভাবে বিশ্বের প্রতিটি দেশে এমন শতশত কোম্পানি রয়েছে যাদের বিজনেসটা দাঁড়িয়ে আছে গুগল ম্যাপসের ওপর ভর করে। আর এসব কোম্পানি থেকে বছর বছর মোটা অংকের টাকা পেয়ে বিলিয়ন ডলারের কোম্পানি হয়ে উঠছে গুগল ম্যাপস।
গুগলের আরও একটি মজার ইনকাম সোর্স আছে। যখন অনলাইনে আমরা কোন শিপিং অ্যাড্রেস বা বিলিং অ্যাড্রেস লিখতে যাই, তখন অনেকগুলো অপশনই অটোমেটিক পূরণ হয়ে যায়। এটা হয় গুগল প্লেসেস এপিআইয়ের মাধ্যমে। এক্ষেত্রে প্রতিবার ব্যবহারে মাত্র তিন সেন্ট কেটে রাখে গুগল। সংখ্যাটা খুব কম হলেও প্রতিবছরে কতবার আপনি এর ব্যবহার করছেন ভাবুন তো। যদি ১০ বার করে থাকেন তাহলে গুগলের ৩০ সেন্ট ইনকাম। আর তিনশো কোটি লোক যদি একইভাবে ব্যবহার করে তাহলে শুধু এই এক এপিআই থেকেই গুগলের আয় হয় ১ বিলিয়ন ডলার।
