Welcome guys to our show. Ah so glad to you have here. Let’s start quick after a whole week. What does Bangladesh mean to you right now?
Coming from Argentina to Bangladesh, we didn’t know ah what was going to happen or with what we were going to experience here. And we take ah a lot of good experiences, ah we met a lot of great people, everyone here is ah really kind and always ah wants to know how much they appreciate us. And that’s really important for us and we really appreciate all the love that the Bangladesh people ah shown us. So we take a lot of kindness and a lot of also chaos of people and and a lot of ah good experiences, so yeah.
If anyone can add something?
Well, I think ah I I what I said a few times, for me, Bangladesh is like a parallel Argentina, like a parallel universe of Ar- Argentina. It’s like ah because yeah, the- this story that we we talk a few times that for many years you have this passion for our country, for Argentina, but we didn’t know about this. We didn’t know at all. Maybe 4 years ago with Qatar, the World Cup there, it was that we start to discover all this passion. It was like a door that was open and let us spy through social media all what was going on. Like these rallies and the flags in the buildings and you were seeing like all these people celebrating the games, and looks like Argentina but it’s not Argentina. So it’s like what’s going on there? And you know like ah yeah, with the rallies, with the games, in the university, these gatherings and these things like trying to make the huge ah ah ah jersey, and the all these kind of things that sounds like okay, this is happening in Argentina, but it’s like a different country. So coming here was like entering to this parallel universe, and I think for me, Bangladesh is this. It’s like a parallel Argentina that is like happening in a different dimension.
Dan Rulo, what is the back story behind this trip?
Well, because of all this passion, all this love, all this demonstration of love that you have, there was this idea that, well, Martin Escalada ah together with Mantecol, that is like a brand ah ah that produce and sells like a candy, sweets. So they they they had this idea of okay, why this time, this World Cup, we don’t go to Bangladesh to thanks for the support. So it was like a campaign like a ah commercial action. It’s like okay, we are going to take Mantecol to Bangladesh. But at the same time, it was not only like a commercial action because this is what I I liked about this idea and this is why I joined here, because for me, it was like something that is like a bond. It’s a connection between both both countries. And it’s not only, it’s like an emotional and human ah ah campaign. You know, you know it’s like something that goes through all this ah ah yeah, to the deepest part of our humanity to see how two cultures and two countries can connect together. So the idea or the the reason why we’re here is like we came, we are like a group of five people from Argentina that decide to come to live an experience, the World Cup, with in Bangladesh to share ah all this passion with the people of Bangladesh and witness all this passion with the people of Bangladesh and at the same time, thanks Bangladesh for the support.
Hey Santiago, you saw both Old Dhaka and the New Dhaka. Which spot surprised you?
Creo que cada lugar tiene su magia, sobre todo la gente. Eh nos llevamos una experiencia maravillosa de este lugar, que creo que nos va a cambiar mucho la vida. Nos va a cambiar mucho la vida, hemos conocido gente maravillosa que nos ha demostrado que lo más importante es eh la calidad humana, la energía, el amor, más que cualquier cosa material. Y gracias a Martín por convocarme para este proyecto que creo que eh va a ser un gran cambio en mi manera de ver las cosas de ahora en adelante.
Okay, ah Javier, ah what is your reaction to that messy crowd you saw in the Dhaka University?
I don’t know what words explain this reaction. Fever, passion, ah love. I don’t know, but everything is positive for me. I’m very grateful for the this to be able to make this ah documentary around the the the connection with your country, with Argentina people. And it’s very emotional for me. Ah, is textualmente like the target?
(Laughter)
Yeah, wait wait wait. Ah no it’s, ah it’s very eh for me it’s it’s ah full of some emotions every time. Ah, I’m connect a lot with the people. I can see the the the the passion of the people for the Argentinian football and the humanity and kindness of the people of Bangladesh. For me, the the the best of this project is is to to connect with the people. Of course, to make a travel with this gorgeous people and connect with the people from your country. What is amazing people. Love.
Martina, when you saw Argentina flag all over the Dhaka’s rooftop, what was your first reaction?
Ah when I saw them, I was like (Gasps) I couldn’t ah I I couldn’t believe it that that many people ah went to the roof and pulled the flag, and really ah hang it there. It it it there’s a a lot of wind and they don’t move. Like it’s it’s amazing how the mostly the the passion of from eh that they have from Argentina makes them do that and that’s amazing. Ah, I think the the flags in the roof and all the flags that are all around the Bangladesh, it’s what truly ah makes us see also the the passion that they have for us, that they do things for Argentina. They don’t only they don’t just ah say, “Oh I love Argentina.” No, no, no, they do things.
Do you remember how many flags you shoot?
Oh. Uncountable. Uncountable. Thousands I think. It was amazing. It was a lot and we always see people with Argentinian t-shirts and eh we always say like, “Oh an Argentinian t-shirt,” al- although we saw them like a hundred times. Every time we see another one, we are surprised that that many people just wear it because they like it and because they like Argentina and Martin,
¿cómo se sienta ser tratada como una celebridad sólo por ser del país de Messi?
Muy bien, ese español. Muy bien. Eh son 50,000 locos amorosos de de una gran pasión, de un gran corazón. Eh una locura me pareció, una extremadamente cariñosa, calurienta sensación de agobio, pero nunca sentí ni miedo, ni inseguridad. Me sentí cómodo, sabiendo que yo a las multitudes les esquivo, me corro de las multitudes y nunca tuve una todos caminando pegados acá a mi lado, así como locos y y me sentí bien y me sentí muy muy apreciado y cuidado por ustedes y todavía no llegó la digestión de todo lo que viví. No he digerido lo suficiente. Creo que lo voy a sentir semanas más adelante, voy a caer a la realidad. Eh lo que sí estoy seguro de de que es algo nuevo para mí y algo está empezando. No sé bien qué es, pero lo que viví fue una locura y lo que vamos a vivir mañana seguramente sea otra locura de día, voy a ver más caras todavía, más caras de apasionados, pero mucho corazón. Rulo, honestly who is the crazier about football, Buenos Aires or Dhaka?
No, I I was thinking about what if I answer in Spanish too, you know, it’s like (Inhales deeply) yeah. Eh I think you have different way of craziness here that we have. I think we all are both passionate with football, but I think the way we do it is different. We are much about singing, for example. We like to invent or make songs, like football songs, and we like to sing and to jump and to hug. And you know, we are very physical to express love and passion. So this kind of And and sometimes also this ah becomes in or or you know like ah in violence also. This kind of passion in football, you know, it’s like going eh to watch some football games in in Argentina sometimes could be like kind of ah violent experience. I don’t know how is here, but you know, like like talking to the referee and the opponents and ah and sometimes like fighting. But at the same time, in in the good side, eh eh we it’s something that unite us as a country. Every time there’s a World Cup, we come together. Doesn’t matter like the politics, doesn’t matter we we as a country in the World Cups, we we feel like a unique experience of ah love and and happiness and, you know, like well, at least if if we make a good World Cup. I was trying to teach like songs, but for people it’s like okay, they are not that much into songs or maybe people jump but everybody jumps in their place, but it’s not that jumps like together or like eh eh eh eh eh (Laughter) You know, this is so But at the same time, I could feel, yeah, what Martin was saying about the heart. How you feel this passion for Argentina and you express it in many ways, and when you see the the people that attends to the Already like, you know, like setting a flag in your house when you are not from Argentina, and like Argentinian flag is like is like a show of respect, a show of love and passion. And all these kind of things is like, yeah, you know, because it’s not only about craziness, I think like okay, to be crazy it’s ah because eh it’s okay to show a bit of craziness, but at the same time, this is not only, football is much more than this. So show this love and respect in different ways, it’s also ah appreciate. So maybe it’s not that that important or it’s not that yeah important that much how crazy you can get or who is the craziest. I think there’s different ways of express this passion, and also like respect is a value, love is a value. It’s not only about craziness. And I think this is something that we saw here and and we really like and and enjoy.
That’s good. Martina, beside football, what one thing from Bangladesh are you packing in your suitcase?
Mangoes? (Laughter) Eh the fruit is really really fresh, really really good here. But apart from mangoes, um What about hot? Eh we clothes, honestly clothes, and some space spices for the food. Eh you all have here a really good eh spaces for the food and and clothes, ah well, clothes because in Argentina we the clothes is a little bit more expensive eh not that good of a quality, and here you have a really good quality on on clothes and um and I, we will probably take that. And some Argentinian flags that I that I collect from some people.
And Santiago, have you tried the local spicy food yet?
Yes, of course. I like the spicy but here is too much spicy. Yes. Pero eh bueno, tengo que conseguir en español. Eh la verdad que lo que yo me llevo de en mi maleta de este país es eh mucho cariño y mucho amor. La verdad que me ha sorprendido mucho eso, me quedó muy marcado eh sobre todo con la gente que ha trabajado con nosotros, con ellos que yo también los conocí en este viaje, maravillosas personas, eh tu equipo de producción, Ruska, we love Ruska a lot, eh y bueno, eso, me llevo mucho amor.
Javier, I hear you guys are in the boat ride. How was that? The the land of river in Bangladesh, so what you think?
Ah, voy a hablar español, ¿okay? Ah la vista me pareció muy amplio, muy grande, muy muy surrealista todo, muchísima gente todo el tiempo. ¿Puedo decir algo? Sorry. It’s really interesting ah the boats here. Are really different from Argentina. Eh I was a little bit scared because I it was really different from what we have in Argentina, but it was really interesting to have like eh the boat um, Captain, the captain of the boat, it was driving really different from Argentina. So it was a great experience. There was like we were in the boat and it was a sunset, so we could see like a beautiful red sun coming down. And yeah, somebody said like, “You know, you can see This is it’s the first time we see a sun like this in Bangladesh.” It was like the sun of the flag. You know, it looks like it was like the flag, because in Dhaka, it’s like covered with the clouds or pollution or or So being in the nature and see this sunset was beautiful, beautiful. Yeah, first time we can see the the the see the the sky. Fue el único momento fresquito del día. Yeah.
And you played the football match, the friendly football match, how was that?
Never again. (Laughter) Never again. Two times. Two times. Ah, yeah. Yeah. I’m not going to talk about this. You know, first, okay. I have to be honest about this. First, it’s hard to play with this weather. And and and and the field, it was well, not a field, it was like bricks. So it was like you have to be careful with any single move because it was bricks. And then, they put me in the team that was like the worst players. There were good players and bad players and I was playing with these bad players that they were like, “Ooh, ooh.” And the other was like, “Okay, here, I’m free here. Pa pa pa pa pa.” I was like, “Come on, guys.” They didn’t know where to stand and I was like kind of pissed off a bit. It was also hard to see which were my players and the rest because everybody was with Argentina jersey, so I was like, “Who is playing with me?” So, you know, it was a a tough experience, yeah.
Okay, um Martin, ah ¿cómo se sienta ser tratado como una celebridad sólo por ser del país de Messi?
Un poco de pudor y vergüenza me da, pero es eh es maravilloso en realidad, porque te saludan en la calle a las 2 de la mañana, a las 3 de la tarde, a la mañana, el que va en el tuc tuc, el que te atiende en el hotel, todo el mundo es “¡Oh, Messi, Messi! ¡Messi, Messi! ¡Oh, Messi, tu amigo Messi, Messi!” ¡Ay Dios! Es una locura, una locura total, pero apasionado.
We know you have lots of memory with Messi. Could you say something about that memory?
Eh la eh contar alguna experiencia con Messi.
Ah, ¿con Messi una experiencia? Que todo el equipo de alrededor de Messi está siempre tensionado y él llega con una paz y vos le estirás la mano y te agarra y te abraza y te dice, “¿Qué hacés, Martín?” Y todos los demás, ¿viste? “Eh eh tenemos 20 minutos, tenemos 15 minutos.” Nos quedamos una hora y media tomando mate, charlando, firmando camisetas, una persona totalmente agradable, suave y después se saca la ropa que usó y me dice, “Martín, dásela a la quien quieras.” Y está todo el mundo esperando la ropa que nos deja Messi, que después se la doy a mi hijo, se la doy a alguien de producción. Eh es una nada, he comido asados con él, he comido milanesa con él, que es lo que más le gusta. Es una persona como vos, como yo. No tiene ningún tipo de altanería, no tiene nada que que te aleje, que te tome distancia, es muy suave. No lo tengo, lo único que pide es que no le dé mucho texto, porque se traba. So I was very curious about like ah the rituals, traditions, and how you live ah football here. So, and the contrast of how we do it, you know, it’s like about this connection. So, for example, I discover that uh we we never ah take for granted like rivals, opponents, or or so “Oh, this match is going to be easy. Oh, uh Jordan ah tomorrow is ah 5-0.” This is we we never act like this because we are very yeah like careful with these kind of sayings because we think that this could attract bad luck. So when somebody says something like this, this is this is being like when you say something like, “Like yeah, this rival is going to be very easy,” and then your team lose, you say that you are like mufa, mufa. So when somebody says something like this, you have to say anulo mufa, I cancel this kind of mufa. So every time yeah, people in Bangladesh were, you know, you you live and understand the football in a different way, so when people was saying to me, “Oh yeah, Argentina is going to win this World Cup again,” it was like, “Okay, wait, wait, wait, you know,” no, the for us it’s like okay, no, step by step. Cabo Verde, yeah, it’s very s- okay, every rival is difficult, step by step, you know, we are very like like this. So, yeah, I ask how it’s like this anulo mufa in Bangla, and somebody said, “Yeah, it’s najor lagbe.” So every time somebody say like, “Oh najor lagbe, najor lagbe.”
How many Bangla Bengali word you already learn?

Do you have any plans to bring Messi to Bangladesh?
We we can’t say, no, we can’t talk because this can create a massive traffic chaos. Like you know like if we say Messi Messi is coming, or Messi will come, I think Bangladesh collapse. So, we have to be We we we hope so. We really we really are trying to make him eh aware of all the things that are happening here. Eh so, we really hope so. And we are, we could say we could say all the team and Martin and also people, it’s working eh to maybe try to bring him. So, we really hope so. And we are Nada es imposible. Nothing is impossible.
