রাত তখন আড়াইটা। ইসলামাবাদের আকাশে হালকা কুয়াশা নেমেছে। হঠাৎ করে একজন সাংবাদিক রাওয়ালপিন্ডির আদিয়ালা জেলের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে ফিসফিস করে ফোনে বললো- ভাই, ভেতরে কিছু একটা হয়েছে… কিন্তু কেউ কিছু বলছে না। এক মিনিট, দুই মিনিট, তিন মিনিট… আর তারপরই পাকিস্তানের রাজনীতিতে ছড়িয়ে পড়লো একটা অদ্ভুত নীরবতা। এই গল্পটা কাল্পনিক হলেও, বাস্তবতা এর কাছাকাছি- যখন প্রশ্নটা হয়- ইমরান খান এখন কোথায়? তিনি কি বেঁচে আছেন নাকি নাই? ইমরানের সাথে কি হয়েছে? সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ার ভাইরাল হয়ে পড়া এই খবরের শুরুটা হয় একটা টুইট থেকে। গত ২৬ নভেম্বর আফগানিস্তান টাইমসের সেই টুইটটা ছিলো- “ইমরান খান আদিয়ালা জেলে রহস্যজনকভাবে মারা গেছেন।”
অবশ্য অনেক বিশ্লেষকরা বলছেন, এটি আসলে পাকিস্তান ও আফগানিস্তানের গোয়েন্দা যুদ্ধের একটি ‘টিট-ফর-ট্যাট’ গেম, অর্থাৎ ইটের বদলে পাটকেল আর কি। কিছুদিন আগে পাকিস্তান মিডিয়া রটিয়েছিল তালেবান প্রধান মোল্লা হাইবাতুল্লাহ মারা গেছেন। তার বদলা নিতেই নাকি আফগান মিডিয়া ইমরান খানের মৃত্যুর এই গুজব ছড়িয়ে পাকিস্তানকে অস্থির করে দিয়েছে।
কিন্তু আরো ভয়ের বিষয় ঘটে কয়েক ঘণ্টা পরে। ইমরানের তিন বোন আদালতের আদেশ নিয়ে আদিয়ালা জেলে পৌঁছান। তবে দেখা করার তো দূরের কথা, তাদের ওপর লাঠিচার্জ করা হয়। চুল ধরে টেনে দূরে সরিয়ে দেয় নিরাপত্তারক্ষীরা। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ইমরানের ছেলে প্রকাশ্যে দাবি করেন- সরকার এখনো পর্যন্ত তার বাবার জীবিত থাকার কোনো প্রমাণ দেখাতে পারেনি।
সবচেয়ে বিচিত্র ব্যাপার- পাকিস্তান সরকার বলছে ইমরান সুস্থ আছেন। কিন্তু কোথাও তাঁর কোনো ভিডিও নেই, কোনো ছবি নেই, এমনকি তাঁর কণ্ঠও নেই।
তাহলে প্রশ্নটা সোজা- যদি ইমরান খান সত্যিই জীবিত হন, তবে তাঁকে লুকিয়ে রাখা হচ্ছে কেন? এমন তো নয় যে তিনি একজন সাধারণ বন্দি। তিনি পাকিস্তানের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় নেতা। একসময়ের ক্রিকেট বিশ্বকাপজয়ী নায়ক। আজ তিনি কোথায়? কয়েদি নম্বর ৮০৪- একটি অন্ধকার সেলে নাকি পাকিস্তানের ক্ষমতার খেলায় ইতিমধ্যেই একটি সাইলেন্ট অপারেশন হয়ে গেছেন?
আপনি যখন এই ভিডিও দেখছেন, তখন হয়তো ইমরান খানের নতুন কোনো খবর বাজারে এসে গেছে। হয়তো তিনি আর নেই কিংবা বহাল তবিয়তেই আছেন। কিন্তু তিনি বেঁচে আছেন কি না, সেটা যত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, তার চেয়েও বড় প্রশ্ন – কেন এই ভয়াবহ পরিস্থিতির তৈরি হলো? এর পিছনের নোংরা রাজনীতিটা কী? সেটা বুঝতে পারাটাই আজ আমাদের জন্য সবচেয়ে বেশি জরুরি।
আজকের গল্প সেই সত্যের খোঁজে। কিভাবে একজন বিশ্বমঞ্চের তারকা, পাকিস্তানের সবচেয়ে আলোচিত রহস্যে পরিণত হলেন।
ইমরান খান শুধু একজন নেতা নন, পাকিস্তানীদের কাছে তিনি রীতিমতো জীবন্ত বিস্ময়। লাহোরের এক অভিজাত পরিবারে তার জন্ম। পড়াশোনা অক্সফোর্ডে। যৌবনটা কেটেছে ভোগ-বিলাসে। ছিলেন তুখোড় ‘প্লে-বয়’। লন্ডনের নাইটক্লাবে ছিল তাঁর নিয়মিত আড্ডা। ব্রিটিশ রয়্যাল ফ্যামিলির সাথেও ছিল ঘনিষ্ঠ যোগাযোগ।
কিন্তু ১৯৯২ সালে সব বদলে গেল। কর্নারড টাইগার হয়েও লড়াই করে পাকিস্তানকে এনে দিলেন ক্রিকেট বিশ্বকাপ। কিন্তু তখনই এলো এক বড় ধাক্কা। ক্যান্সারে মারা গেলেন তাঁর মা। এই মর্মান্তিক শোক থেকেই গড়ে তুললেন শওকত খানম হাসপাতাল। আজ যা অসংখ্য গরীব পাকিস্তানীর একমাত্র ভরসা।
ইমরান ক্রিকেটের ব্যাট ছেড়ে সরাসরি রাজনীতির মাঠে নেমেছিলেন ১৯৯৬ সালে। ব্রিটেনের বিলাশবহুল জীবন, সুন্দরী স্ত্রী, সাজানো সংসার ছেড়ে দেশের মানুষের টানে ফিরে এসেছিলেন পাকিস্তানে।
ভাবুন তো একবার! গোল্ডস্মিথ পরিবারের জামাতা তিনি, প্রিন্সেস ডায়ানার ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধু। লন্ডনের রাজকীয় জীবন তাকে হাতছানি দিচ্ছিল। কিন্তু সেই নিশ্চিত আয়েশ ছেড়ে তিনি বেছে নিলেন পাকিস্তানের অনিশ্চিত রাজপথ।
এই সংগ্রামের সাক্ষী, ইমরানের প্রাক্তন স্ত্রী জেমিমা গোল্ডস্মিথ এই দেশপ্রেম নিয়ে একটি কথা বলেছিলেন যা আজও প্রাসঙ্গিক। জেমিমা বলেছিলেন, ‘আমি এমন এক মানুষকে বিয়ে করেছিলাম যে চাইলে খুব সহজেই পশ্চিমে রাজার হালে থাকতে পারতো। কিন্তু সে বেছে নিয়েছিল নিজের দেশের মানুষের জন্য ধুলোবালি আর সংগ্রামের কঠিন পথ। তার কাছে পাকিস্তানই ছিল প্রথম প্রেম, আমি বা আমার সন্তানরা নয়।’
মূল প্রসঙ্গে ফিরি। ‘পাকিস্তান তেহরিক-ই ইনসাফ’ নামে নতুন এক দল গড়লেন ইমরান খান। যার সংক্ষিপ্ত নাম পিটিআই। প্রথমে অবশ্য মানুষজন ঠাট্টা করে দলটিকে ‘টাঙ্গা পার্টি’ নামেই ডাকতো। কিন্তু এসবে কান দিতেন না ইমরান। ২২ বছরের অসম লড়াই শেষে ২০১৮ সালে হলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী। হুট করে শুনলে মনে হয় রূপকথা। যেন “তিনি এলেন, দেখলেন, এবং জয় করলেন” । তাই না?
কিন্তু তাঁর আসল যুদ্ধটা তখনও বাকি। ২০২১ সাল পর্যন্ত পাকিস্তানী সেনাপ্রধান জেনারেল বাজওয়ার ছিলেন তাঁর ঘনিষ্ঠ মিত্র। কিন্তু ২০২১ সালের ৬ অক্টোবর, একটা ঘটনা সব বদলে দিল চিরতরে… সেনাবাহিনী একটা সিদ্ধান্ত নিল। আইএসআই প্রধানের পদে পরিবর্তন আসবে। জেনারেল ফয়েজ হামিদকে সরিয়ে নতুন কেউ আসবেন। এটা রুটিন কাজ। কিন্তু ইমরান খান রাজি নন। তিনি ফাইল আটকে দিলেন। টানা বিশ দিন তিনি নতুন নিয়োগপত্রে সই করলেন না।
কিন্তু কেন? ভেতরের খবর হলো, ইমরান খান জেনারেল ফয়েজকে তাঁর ক্ষমতার ‘তুরুপের তাস’ ভাবতেন। তাঁর বিশ্বাস ছিল, সামনে নির্বাচন। জেনারেল ফয়েজ পাশে থাকলে তিনি আবারও জিততে পারবেন। তিনি চেয়েছিলেন আফগানিস্তানের অজুহাত দেখিয়ে ফয়েজ হামিদকে কয়েক মাস রাখতে।
গুঞ্জন আছে, এ বিষয়টি নিয়ে বন্ধ দরজার আড়ালে জেনারেল বাজওয়ার সাথে ইমরান খানের তুমুল ঝগড়া হয়। চিৎকার চেঁচামেচি পর্যন্ত গড়ায়। বাজওয়া স্পষ্ট বলে দেন, “প্রতিষ্ঠান চলবে তার নিয়মে, আপনার ইগোতে নয়!”
বিশ্লেষকদের মতে, এই বিশ দিনের জেদই ইমরান খানের জীবনের সবচেয়ে বড় ভুল। বাজওয়া তখন স্পষ্ট বুঝে গেলেন, এই প্রধানমন্ত্রী আর নিয়ন্ত্রণে নেই। তিনি সেনাবাহিনীর শৃঙ্খলায় হাত দিচ্ছেন। আর তখনই সেনাবাহিনী নিল এক চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত। তারা ‘নিরপেক্ষ’ হতে চলেছে। আর পাকিস্তানের ইতিহাস বলে, সেনাবাহিনীর ‘নিরপেক্ষতা’-র মানেই হলো… সরকার পতন।
একটা মাথা ঘুরিয়ে দেবার মতো পরিসংখ্যান বলি। পাকিস্তানের ৭৭ বছরের ইতিহাসের প্রায় ৩৩ বছরই কেটেছে সরাসরি সামরিক শাসনে। আইয়ুব খান, ইয়াহিয়া খান, জিয়াউল হক, পারভেজ মোশাররফ—সামরিক শাসকদের নামের তালিকাটা বেশ দীর্ঘ।
আর বাকি সময়? যখন নির্বাচিত সরকার ক্ষমতায় এসেছে, তখনও ক্ষমতার আসল চাবিকাঠি ছিল রাওয়ালপিন্ডির সেনাসদর দপ্তরেই। এই লাগাতার হস্তক্ষেপ, এই ‘হাইব্রিড শাসন’-ই আজ পাকিস্তানকে নিয়ে এসেছে ধ্বংসের কিনারায়। একটি ব্যর্থ রাষ্ট্র হওয়ার পথে।
অবিশ্বাস্য হলেও সত্য, আজ পর্যন্ত পাকিস্তানের কোনো প্রধানমন্ত্রীই তাঁর পাঁচ বছরের মেয়াদ পূর্ণ করতে পারেনি। গণতান্ত্রিক যাত্রায় পাকিস্তান এতোটাই পিছিয়ে।
তবে ইমরান খানের আজকের দূর্দশার পেছনে তাঁর দলের ভুল পদক্ষেপও কম দায়ী নয়। ২০২৩ সালের ৯ মে। এদিন ইমরান খানের গ্রেফতারের ঘটনায় তার সমর্থকরা আবেগী হয়ে যা করে বসলো, তা পাকিস্তানের ইতিহাসে বিরল। সমর্থকরা সরাসরি হামলা চালালো সেনা স্থাপনায়। আর এটাই সেনাবাহিনীকে সুযোগ করে দিল। শুরু হলো ‘অপারেশন ক্র্যাকডাউন’। পিটিআই-এর হাজার হাজার নেতাকর্মীকে গ্রেফতার করা হলো, দলটিকে কার্যত ভেঙে চুরমার করে দেয়া হলো। ইমরান খান ও সেনাবাহিনীর সম্পর্কের যেটুকু অবশিষ্ট ছিল, ৯ মে-এর আগুনে তাও পুড়ে ছাই হয়ে গেল।
কিন্তু সমস্যাটা শুধু সেনাবাহিনী ছিল না। ইমরানের ঘরের ভেতরেও শুরু হয়েছিল এক অদ্ভুত অস্থিরতা। এখানেই বলতে হয় বুশরা বিবির কথা। ইমরান খানের তৃতীয় স্ত্রী। তাকে নাকি ইমরান খান আধ্যাত্মিক মেন্টর মানতেন। রিউমার শোনা যায়, ইমরান খান অনেক বড় বড় রাজনৈতিক সিদ্ধান্ত নিজের লজিক দিয়ে নয়, বরং বুশরা বিবির ‘স্বপ্ন’ বা আধ্যাত্মিক ইশারার ওপর ভিত্তি করে। জাহাঙ্গির তারিন এবং আলিম খান- এই দুজন ছিলেন ইমরান খানের দুর্দিনের সঙ্গী। ইমরানের রাজনৈতিক দলের যে কোনো অর্থনৈতিক সমর্থনে পাশে পাওয়া যেত তাদের। তারিনকে তো বলা হতো ইমরান খানের ‘এটিএম মেশিন’। কিন্তু হঠাৎ করেই তাদের দল থেকে সাইডলাইন করে দেওয়া হলো। কেন? ভেতরের খবর বলছে, তারিন এবং আলিম – দুজনই বুশরা বিবির অপছন্দের মানুষ ছিল বলেই তাদের সরে যেতে হয়েছিল। বুশরা বিবি যেমন ইমরানের পাশে ঘনিষ্ঠ কাউকে সহ্য করতে পারতেন না, তেমনি ইমরানও বুশরার কথার বাইরে কিছুই করতেন না। ইমরান খানের দীর্ঘদিনের ব্যক্তিগত সহকারী আউন চৌধুরীকে একবার সরকারের একটি শপথ গ্রহণ অনুষ্ঠান থেকে বের করে দেওয়া হয়েছিল। এর একমাত্র কারণ ছিল, বুশরা বিবি নাকি স্বপ্নে দেখেছিলেন যে আউন চৌধুরী একটি “অশুভ” শক্তি। ইমরান খান এই স্বপ্নের কথাই প্রমাণ হিসেবে মেনে নিয়ে তার বিশ্বস্ত সহকারীকেও অনুষ্ঠান থেকে সরিয়ে দেন।
বুশরার ঘনিষ্ঠ বান্ধবী ফারাহ গোগির বদলি বাণিজ্য আর অনিয়ম ইমরান খানের ইমেজ নষ্ট করেছে ব্যাপক। ফারাহ-এর একটি অডিও পাকিস্তানীদের অবাক করেছিলো। যেখানে ফারাহ পাঁচ ক্যারেটের হীরার আংটি দাবি করেছেন, কারণ তিন ক্যারেটের হীরা নাকি ফার্স্ট লেডির মানায় না। যে ইমরান আজীবন দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করেছেন, কিন্তু তাঁর নিজের ঘরেই যখন দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ উঠলো, তখন তাঁর জনপ্রিয়তার ইমেজে ফাটল ধরতে শুরু করলো।
আরেকটা মজার ব্যাপার বলে রাখি এখানে। এই দুর্নীতির অভিযোগই ইমরান খান আর পাকিস্তানের বর্তমান সেনাপ্রধান জেনারেল আসিম মুনির শত্রুতার মূল কারণ। জেনারেল আসিম মুনির আজকের এই ক্ষমতাধর অবস্থানে আসার পেছনেও ছিলেন ইমরান খান। তিনিই তাকে আইএসআই-এর প্রধান বানিয়েছিলেন। কিন্তু যখনই আসিম মুনির, ইমরান খানের স্ত্রী বুশরা বিবির দুর্নীতির গোপন ফাইল উপস্থাপন করলেন, তখনই সব বদলে গেল। ইমরান খান রাগে আগুন হয়ে তাকে পদ থেকে সরিয়ে দিলেন। এক সময়ের ঘনিষ্ঠ মিত্র পরিণত হলেন চিরশত্রুতে। সেই ব্যক্তিগত রাগই আজ ইমরান খানের জন্য হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে সবচেয়ে বড় অভিশাপ।
তবে সবচেয়ে চমকপ্রদ হলো ১৯৭১-এর প্রসঙ্গ। ক্ষমতা হারানোর পরে ইমরান খান হঠাৎ করেই প্রকাশ্যে বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাস টেনে আনেন। তিনি নিজেকে সরাসরি শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের পরিস্থিতির সাথে তুলনা করেন।
সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় তিনি হামুদুর রহমান কমিশনের রিপোর্ট পড়ার আহ্বান জানিয়ে প্রশ্ন তোলেন— ‘আসল দেশদ্রোহী কে? জেনারেল ইয়াহিয়া খান নাকি শেখ মুজিব?’ তিনি স্পষ্টভাবেই বলেন, ১৯৭০ সালে শেখ মুজিবের ম্যান্ডেটে যেমন চুরি করা হয়েছিল, আজ তাঁর সাথেও ঠিক একই করা হচ্ছে। আর তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে এই সাইফার বা আমেরিকার সাথে গোপন তারবার্তায় ষড়যন্ত্রের মামলাটি যেন ‘আগরতলা ষড়যন্ত্র মামলারই পাকিস্তানি ভার্সন’। এই তুলনাটা সাধারণ পাকিস্তানির মনে ব্যাপক আলোড়ন তোলে।
কিন্তু এখানেই শেষ নয়। ইমরান খান যেন জেল থেকে বের হতে না পারেন, সেজন্য ২০২৪-২৫ সালে পাকিস্তান সরকার খেললো এক নতুন চাল। তড়িঘড়ি করে আনা হলো সংবিধানের ২৬তম সংশোধনী। বিচার বিভাগের ক্ষমতা কমানোই ছিল এই সংশোধনের মূল লক্ষ্য। সরকার জানত, সুপ্রিম কোর্টের কিছু বিচারপতি ইমরান খানের প্রতি সহানুভূতিশীল।
তাই তৈরি করা হলো আইনের এই ফাঁদ। তাই আদালত চাইলেও তাঁকে জামিন দিতে পারবে না। সহজ ভাষায়, বিচার বিভাগকে পঙ্গু বানিয়েই ইমরান খানকে আজীবন কারারুদ্ধ রাখার পথ পাকা করা হলো। আর খুব সম্প্রতি আনা হয়েছে ২৭ তম সংশোধন, যা আরো ভয়ংকর। এর মাধ্যমে সেনাপ্রধান আসিম মুনিরের হাতে এমন ক্ষমতা তুলে দেওয়া হয়েছে যা সুপ্রিম কোর্ট বা পার্লামেন্টের চেয়েও বেশি। সহজ কথায়, তিনি এখন জবাবদিহিতার ঊর্ধ্বে, এবং চাইলেই আজীবন ক্ষমতায় থাকতে পারবেন। কোনো বিরোধী দল এর প্রতিবাদ করার সাহসটুকুও দেখায়নি।
এখন সবচেয়ে বড় প্রশ্ন, এই গল্পের শেষ কোথায়? ২০২৫ সালের এই মুহূর্তে, যখন সোশ্যাল মিডিয়া ইমরান খান নিয়ে উত্তাল, তখন ভবিষ্যতের তিনটি সম্ভাবনার কথা মডেল আকারে বলা যেতে পারে।
প্রথম সম্ভাবনা, মোহাম্মদ মুরসি মডেল- সবচেয়ে ভয়ঙ্কর সম্ভাবনা প্রথমে বলি। মিশরের সেই নির্বাচিত প্রেসিডেন্টকে যেমন জেলে অন্ধকার কুঠুরিতে ফেলে রাখা হয়েছিল, ঠিক তেমনই। ছয় বছর কারাগারে বন্দী করে মানসিক নির্যাতন এবং চিকিৎসার অভাবে তাঁর মৃত্যু হয়। ইমরান খানের পরিবারও এই আশঙ্কাই করছেন। রাখা হয়েছে ডেথ সেলে, পরিবারের সাথে দেখা করতে দেয়া হচ্ছে না, কোনো খবরাখবরও দেয়া হচ্ছে না ভেতর থেকে, সবকিছুতেই যেন মুরসির গল্পের পুনরাবৃত্তি মনে হচ্ছে। সরকার হয়তো চাইছে, ইমরানের মৃত্যুর প্রাকৃতিক কারণ দেখিয়ে দায়মুক্ত হতে। নিজেদের হাতে কোনো রক্তের দাগ না লাগিয়ে ঝামেলা মিটিয়ে ফেলার প্রচেষ্টা।
দ্বিতীয় সম্ভাবনা, নওয়াজ শরিফ মডেল- অর্থাৎ সমঝোতা। অতীতে নওয়াজ শরিফ সেনাবাহিনীর সাথে সমঝোতা করে দশ বছরের জন্য নির্বাসনে গিয়েছিলেন। ইমরান খানের কাছেও এমন প্রস্তাব থাকতে পারে, রাজনীতি ছেড়ে বিদেশে আরামের জীবন। কিন্তু সমস্যা হলো, ইমরান খান বিদেশের আরামের জীবন ছেড়েই রাজনীতিতে এসেছেন। তাকে এই টোপ গেলানো মুশকিলই হবে। তাই জেল থেকেই তিনি বলে দিয়েছেন, “আমি নওয়াজ শরিফ নই। দেশ ছেড়ে যাব না। প্রয়োজন হলে জেলেই মরব।”
সম্প্রতি জেল থেকে ইমরান খান বর্তমান সেনাপ্রধান জেনারেল আসিম মুনিরকে উদ্দেশ্য করে আরো এক ভয়ংকর কথা বলেছেন। তার কথাটা ছিলো, জেনারেল মুনিরের নিজেকে ‘ফিল্ড মার্শাল’ না বলে ‘রাজা’ (King) ঘোষণা করা উচিত, কারণ দেশে এখন ‘জঙ্গলের আইন’ চলছে ।
আর তৃতীয় সম্ভাবনা, গণঅভ্যুত্থান। শেখ মুজিব বা এরদোয়ানের মডেল। ইমরান খান ভেবেছিলেন, জনতা রাস্তায় নেমে তাঁকে মুক্ত করবে। ২০২৪ সালের নভেম্বরে তিনি দিয়েছিলেন ‘চূড়ান্ত ডাক’। তাঁর স্ত্রী বুশরা বিবি নিজে নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছিলেন সেই আন্দোলনে। কিন্তু রাষ্ট্রযন্ত্র তখন কঠোর হাতে দমন করল সবকিছু। শত শত কর্মী গ্রেপ্তার। গুলি চলেছে রাস্তায়। পাকিস্তানের জনতা ভোট দিয়ে তাঁকে জিতিয়েছিল ঠিকই, কিন্তু ১৯৭১-এর বাঙালির মতো বন্দুকের নলের সামনে দাঁড়াতে পারেনি। তাই এই মুহূর্তে বিপ্লবের সম্ভাবনা একেবারে ক্ষীণ। আরেকটি একাত্তর? না, পাকিস্তান সে পথে এখনো যায়নি। ইমরান খান আর পাকিস্তান আজ এক কঠিন সন্ধিক্ষণে দাঁড়িয়ে। একদিকে তাঁর অগণিত সমর্থক, অন্যদিকে রাষ্ট্র তথা সেনাবাহিনীর অপ্রতিরোধ্য শক্তি।
আর ব্যাপারটা যে শুধু পাকিস্তানের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ রয়েছে, এমন না। বিশ্লেষকরা আশঙ্কা করছেন, ইমরান খানকে কেন্দ্র করে যদি কোনো গৃহযুদ্ধ শুরু হয়, তবে পাকিস্তান আর্মি জনগণের নজর ঘোরাতে ভারতের সীমান্তে কোনো ছোটখাটো যুদ্ধ শুরুর ‘সাজানো নাটক’ শুরু করতে পারে। দিল্লি ব্লাস্ট বা পেহেলগামের মতো ঘটনা ঘটিয়ে তারা হয়তো চাইবে উগ্র জাতীয়তাবাদ দিয়ে ইমরান ইস্যু ধামাচাপা দিতে। তাই, বিষয়টা পুরো উপমহাদেশের জন্যই চিন্তার ব্যাপার।
সত্যি বলতে, ইমরান খানের বড় ভুলটা ছিল অন্য জায়গায়। রাজনীতিতে তিনি ছিলেন অনমনীয় ও একরোখা। তিনি চেয়েছিলেন সবাইকে পেছনে ফেলে একাই যুদ্ধটা জিততে। কিন্তু রাজনীতি তো দাবা খেলার মতো। রাজাকে বাঁচাতে হলে কখনো কখনো পিছনে হাঁটতে হয়, তারপর সবাইকে সাথে নিয়ে শক্তি অর্জন করে এগিয়ে যেতে হয়, কাছের মানুষদের দূরে সরিয়ে নয়।
কী হবে – তা নিশ্চিত করে জানতে এখন শুধুই সময়ের অপেক্ষা। পাকিস্তানী সেনাবাহিনীর জেলের লৌহদরজা কি কোনো একদিন খুলবে? নাকি ইমরান খান ইতিহাসে আরেকটি ট্র্যাজিক হিরো হিসেবেই থেকে যাবেন? চিরতরে হারিয়ে যাবেন জেলের দরজার ওপাশের অন্ধকারে।
পাকিস্তানের অর্থনীতি আজ ধ্বংসের দ্বারপ্রান্তে, আর সাধারণ মানুষ মনে করে একমাত্র ইমরান খানই তাদের বাঁচাতে পারেন।

It was then 2:30 at night; light fog had descended on the sky of Islamabad; suddenly a journalist standing in front of Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail whispered on the phone— Brother, something has happened inside… but no one is saying anything.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes… and right after that, a strange silence spread across Pakistan’s politics.
Even if this story is fictional, the reality is close to it— when the question is— where is Imran Khan now? Is he alive or not?
What happened to Imran? The start of this news becoming viral on social media happens from a tweet.
That tweet from Afghanistan Times on last November 26 was— “Imran Khan has died mysteriously in Adiala Jail.”
Of course, many analysts are saying, this is actually a ‘tit-for-tat’ game of the intelligence war between Pakistan and Afghanistan, meaning brick for stone basically.
A few days ago, Pakistan media had rumored that Taliban chief Mullah Hibatullah had died.
To take revenge for that, apparently Afghan media has spread this rumor of Imran Khan’s death and made Pakistan unstable.
But a more fearful matter happens a few hours later; Imran’s three sisters arrived at Adiala Jail with a court order.
However, let alone meeting, lathi-charge was done on them; security guards pulled them away by holding their hair.
Immediately Imran’s son publicly claimed— the government until now has not been able to show any proof of his father being alive.
The strangest matter— the Pakistan government says Imran is healthy; but nowhere is there any video of him, no photo, not even his voice.
Then the question is straight— if Imran Khan is truly alive, then why is he being kept hidden?
It is not that he is an ordinary prisoner; he is Pakistan’s most popular leader; once a Cricket World Cup winning hero; where is he today?
Prisoner number 804— in a dark cell or has he already become a silent operation in Pakistan’s power game?
When you are watching this video, perhaps some new news of Imran Khan has come into the market.
Maybe he is no more or is in good health; but whether he is alive or not, as important as that is, an even bigger question is— why was this terrible situation created?
What is the dirty politics behind this? Understanding that is most urgent for us today.
Today’s story is in search of that truth; how a star of the world stage, turned into Pakistan’s most discussed mystery.
Imran Khan is not just a leader, to Pakistanis he is positively a living wonder; his birth was in an elite family of Lahore; studies at Oxford.
Youth was spent in luxury; he was a brilliant ‘playboy’; in London’s nightclubs was his regular hangout; with the British Royal Family too, there was close contact.
But in 1992 everything changed; even being a cornered tiger, by fighting he brought Pakistan the Cricket World Cup.
But right then came a big shock; his mother died of cancer; from this tragic grief, he built Shaukat Khanum Hospital.
Which today is the only hope for countless poor Pakistanis.
Imran left the cricket bat and directly stepped onto the political field in 1996.
Leaving Britain’s luxurious life, beautiful wife, arranged household, for the pull of the country’s people he returned to Pakistan.
Think once! He is the son-in-law of the Goldsmith family, a close friend of Princess Diana; London’s royal life was beckoning him.
But leaving that certain comfort, he chose Pakistan’s uncertain highway.
Witness to this struggle, Imran’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith said a word about this patriotism which is still relevant today.
Jemima said, ‘I married such a man who if he wanted could easily have lived like a king in the West.
But he chose the difficult path of dust and struggle for his own country’s people.
To him Pakistan was the first love, not me or my children.’
Let’s return to the main context; Imran Khan formed a new party named ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’; whose abbreviated name is PTI.
At first, of course, people jokingly called the party the ‘Tanga Party’; but Imran did not pay heed to all this.
After 22 years of unequal fight, in 2018 he became Prime Minister; hearing it suddenly, it seems like a fairytale.
As if “he came, saw, and conquered”; isn’t it?
But his real war was still remaining then; until 2021 Pakistani Army Chief General Bajwa was his close ally.
But on October 6, 2021, one event changed everything forever… the army took a decision; a change will come in the post of ISI Chief.
Removing General Faiz Hameed, someone new will come; this is routine work; but Imran Khan is not agreeable; he held up the file.
For twenty straight days he did not sign the new appointment letter.
But why? The inside news is, Imran Khan thought of General Faiz as his power’s ‘trump card’; his belief was, ahead is the election.
If General Faiz stays by his side he will be able to win again; he wanted to keep Faiz Hameed for a few months by showing the excuse of Afghanistan.
There is a rumor, regarding this matter behind closed doors, a fierce quarrel happened between Imran Khan and General Bajwa; it escalated to shouting and screaming.
Bajwa clearly said, “The institution will run by its rules, not on your ego!”
According to analysts, this twenty-day stubbornness is the biggest mistake of Imran Khan’s life.
Bajwa then clearly understood, this Prime Minister is no longer under control; he is touching the discipline of the army.
And right then the army took a final decision; they are going to be ‘neutral’.
And Pakistan’s history says, the meaning of army’s ‘neutrality’ is… government fall.
Let me tell a head-spinning statistic; of Pakistan’s 77-year history, almost 33 years have been spent under direct military rule.
Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zia-ul-Haq, Pervez Musharraf—the list of names of military rulers is quite long.
And the remaining time? When an elected government came to power, even then the real key of power was at Rawalpindi’s army headquarters.
This continuous interference, this ‘hybrid rule’ has today brought Pakistan to the brink of destruction; on the path to becoming a failed state.
Incredible but true, until today no Prime Minister of Pakistan has been able to complete their five-year term; in the democratic journey, Pakistan is that far behind.
However, behind Imran Khan’s misery today, his party’s wrong steps are not less responsible; May 9, 2023.
On this day, regarding the event of Imran Khan’s arrest, getting emotional, what his supporters ended up doing, is rare in Pakistan’s history.
Supporters directly launched attacks on army installations; and this gave the army the opportunity; started ‘Operation Crackdown’.
Thousands of leaders and workers of PTI were arrested, the party was practically broken and smashed.
Whatever remained of the relationship between Imran Khan and the army, in the fire of May 9 that too burned to ash.
But the problem was not just the army; inside Imran’s house too a strange unrest had started; here one must speak of Bushra Bibi.
Imran Khan’s third wife; apparently Imran Khan considered her a spiritual mentor.
Rumors are heard, Imran Khan made many big political decisions not by his own logic, but based on Bushra Bibi’s ‘dreams’ or spiritual signs.
Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan—these two were Imran Khan’s companions of bad days.
For any financial support of Imran’s political party, they could be found by the side; Tareen was even called Imran Khan’s ‘ATM Machine’.
But suddenly they were sidelined from the party; why?
Inside news says, Tareen and Aleem – both were Bushra Bibi’s disliked people, that is why they had to move away.
Just as Bushra Bibi could not tolerate anyone close beside Imran, similarly Imran also did nothing outside Bushra’s words.
Imran Khan’s long-time personal assistant Awn Chaudhry was once removed from a government oath-taking ceremony.
The only reason for this was, Bushra Bibi apparently saw in a dream that Awn Chaudhry is an “evil” force.
Imran Khan accepting this dream’s word as proof removed even his trusted assistant from the ceremony.
Bushra’s close friend Farah Gogi’s transfer trade and irregularities have damaged Imran Khan’s image extensively.
An audio of Farah had surprised Pakistanis; where Farah claimed a five-carat diamond ring, because a three-carat diamond apparently does not suit the First Lady.
The Imran who fought against corruption all his life, but when allegations of corruption arose in his own house, cracks began to appear in his popularity image.
Let me tell another interesting matter here; this allegation of corruption is the main reason for the enmity between Imran Khan and Pakistan’s current Army Chief General Asim Munir.
Behind General Asim Munir coming to today’s powerful position was also Imran Khan; he was the one who made him the chief of ISI.
But whenever Asim Munir presented the secret file of Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi’s corruption, immediately everything changed.
Imran Khan becoming fire with anger removed him from the post; a one-time close ally turned into an eternal enemy.
That personal anger today has become the biggest curse for Imran Khan.
However, the most surprising is the context of 1971; after losing power Imran Khan suddenly publicly dragged in the history of Bangladesh.
He directly compares himself with the situation of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On social media calling to read the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report he raises the question— ‘Who is the real traitor?
General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujib?’ He clearly says, just as Sheikh Mujib’s mandate was stolen in 1970, today exactly the same is being done to him.
And this Cypher or the case of conspiracy in the secret cable with America against him is as if the ‘Pakistani version of the Agartala Conspiracy Case’.
This comparison raises massive agitation in the mind of the common Pakistani.
But it does not end here; so that Imran Khan cannot get out of jail, in 2024-25 the Pakistan government played a new move.
Hurriedly was brought the 26th Amendment of the Constitution; reducing the power of the judiciary was the main goal of this amendment.
The government knew, some justices of the Supreme Court are sympathetic towards Imran Khan.
That is why this trap of law was created; so the court even if it wants cannot give him bail.
In simple language, by making the judiciary crippled, the path to keeping Imran Khan imprisoned for life was paved.
And very recently has been brought the 27th Amendment, which is more terrifying.
Through this, such power has been handed over to Army Chief Asim Munir which is more than the Supreme Court or Parliament.
In simple words, he is now above accountability, and if he wants can stay in power for life; no opposition party even showed the courage to protest this.
Now the biggest question, where is the end of this story? At this moment in 2025, when social media is tumultuous about Imran Khan, then three possibilities of the future can be said in model form.
First possibility, Mohammed Morsi Model— let me tell the most terrifying possibility first.
Just as Egypt’s elected President was kept thrown in a dark cell in jail, exactly like that.
Imprisoned in jail for six years, due to mental torture and lack of treatment, his death occurs; Imran Khan’s family is also fearing this.
He has been kept in a death cell, not allowed to meet family, no news is being given from inside either, in everything it seems like a repetition of Morsi’s story.
The government perhaps wants, by showing natural causes of Imran’s death, to be free of liability.
An attempt to settle the trouble without putting any blood stain on their own hands.
Second possibility, Nawaz Sharif Model— meaning compromise; in the past Nawaz Sharif compromising with the army went into exile for ten years.
To Imran Khan also such a proposal might be there, leaving politics a life of comfort abroad.
But the problem is, Imran Khan came to politics leaving the comfort life of abroad; swallowing this bait will be difficult for him.
That is why from jail he has said, “I am not Nawaz Sharif; I will not leave the country; if needed I will die in jail.”
Recently from jail Imran Khan addressing current Army Chief General Asim Munir said another terrifying thing.
His word was, General Munir instead of calling himself ‘Field Marshal’ should declare himself ‘King’, because ‘Jungle Law’ is running in the country now.
And third possibility, mass uprising; Sheikh Mujib or Erdogan’s model; Imran Khan thought, the public descending on the street will free him.
In November 2024 he gave the ‘Final Call’; his wife Bushra Bibi herself led that movement.
But the state machinery then suppressed everything with a heavy hand; hundreds of workers arrested; bullets were fired on the street.
Pakistan’s public by voting made him win rightly, but like the Bengalis of 1971 could not stand in front of the gun barrel.
So at this moment the possibility of revolution is absolutely slim; another seventy-one? No, Pakistan has not gone that way yet.
Imran Khan and Pakistan stand today at a difficult juncture; on one side his countless supporters, on the other the irresistible power of the state aka the army.
And it is not that the matter is limited only within Pakistan.
Analysts are fearing, if any civil war starts centering Imran Khan, then the Pakistan Army to turn the public’s eye might start a ‘staged drama’ of starting a small war on the Indian border.
Causing events like Delhi blast or Pahalgam they might want to cover up the Imran issue with radical nationalism.
So, the matter is a cause of worry for the whole subcontinent.
Truth be told, Imran Khan’s big mistake was in another place; in politics he was uncompromising and headstrong.
He wanted to win the war alone leaving everyone behind; but politics is like a game of chess.
To save the King sometimes one has to walk backward, then taking everyone along gathering strength one has to move forward, not by pushing close people away.
What will happen—to know that for sure is now just a wait of time; will the iron door of the Pakistani Army’s jail open someday?
Or will Imran Khan remain as another tragic hero in history? Will get lost forever in the darkness on the other side of the jail door.
Pakistan’s economy today is at the door of destruction, and the common people think only Imran Khan can save them.
